SUMMARY 

The Café Supervisor is a key member of the Café operations team providing operational support to the Café Manager and acting as a Shift Lead for the team of Baristas. 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

To provide exemplary service to all patrons of the cafe and ensure excellent product quality at all times; to direct team of Baristas and open and close the Café . The role includes, but is not limited to: 

  • Welcoming customers 
  • Taking orders, making product recommendations to customers and processing transactions 
  • Communicating special requirements to the kitchen 
  • Organizing stock 
  • Receiving deliveries 
  • Processing pre-orders through the POS system 
  • Preparing and serving specialty coffee drinks including espresso-based beverages in line with 49th Parallel’s standards 
  • Dialing-in and tasting espresso and coffees to ensure product quality 
  • Assist with training new staff on in-café routines and barista skills, as directed by the Café Manager; assist new staff during their orientation and training period. 
  • Directing and determining staff positions throughout the shift 
  • Holding keys and being responsible for the opening and closing of the café 
*Other duties and special projects may be assigned from time to time.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • 2 years of experience in a hospitality / service environment 
  • 1 years of experience in a coffee focused position and experience preparing specialty espresso-based beverages 
  • 6 months experience as a Barista at 49th Parallel café or prior experience as a Supervisor in a specialty coffee environment 
  • Provide excellent customer service  
  • Exceptional knowledge of coffee flavour notes and the ability to demonstrate a good palate and dial-in coffee and espresso efficiently 
  • Working knowledge of POS systems 
  • Experience providing staff training is an asset

  • Ability to lead and motivate the team  
  • Ability to give constructive and meaningful feedback 
  • Willingness to receive and act upon feedback received from others 
  • Demonstrate and embed the company values throughout the cafe   

Soft Skills / Other:  

  • Excellent customer service skills  
  • VERY passionate about coffee  
  • Knowledge of specialty coffee, coffee trends and café operations 
  • Attention to detail; effective communicator 
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage time effectively to achieve results 
  • Ability to build strong internal working relationships and be an effective communicator 
  • Have a “no job is too small” mentality: you roll up your sleeves, boldly jump in and get it done!  
  • Have ability to see a project through from beginning to end while demonstrating the ability to both multi-task effectively and prioritize tasks  
  • Be results-oriented and process driven, with high expectations of self and team 
  • Positive outlook and attitude
