Brazil Sítio Da Lalá
SOURCING STORY
Sitio Da Lalá is a family owned farm, found within the small town of Alto Jequitibá in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Here, Josimar Augusto Sodré (known by friends and family as Lalá) has lived for 25 years. Extremely passionate about coffee, she has some of the most meticulously cared for trees you will see, with very careful picking and drying performed. The benefits of this attention to detail are clear in the cup. Lalá is a single mother of three girls. The eldest is Janaina at 26 years old, the youngest is Larissa at 20. The middle daughter is Luana. age 23. Besides her job as a mathematics teacher, she is helping Lalá the most with the coffee production. The Sodré family began their relationship with coffe exporter FAF in 2016, with a renewed focus on speciality quality production. Working with two other women led producers in the area, they created their first 10 bags of speciality quality coffee. FAF now works with multiple farms in the area and has started a project called ‘The Women of the Valley’ to grow the number of women farmers in the area. Now in Alto Jequitibá, there are more than 80 families that, inspired by Luana and Lala, started to focus their production on specialty coffees.
