This is a natural processed lot of Bourbon from JNP coffee and the Karuzi producing group located in the Karuzi province, Burundi. In the cup, expect a vibrant and crisp fruit character reminding us of guava and apricot, complimented by complex floral aromatics and a silky clean, juicy mouthfeel.


This lot is from the Karuzi producing group, located in central Burundi and is part of the “Dushime” program operatd by JNP, which provides lot selection, marketing and quality consultations. This results in better quality coffee and higher premiums paid to producers. It is named “Ubuto” which translates to “young”, representative of the younger trees that this lot was selected from as well as the new partnership between this group and JNP. Founded by Jeanine Niyonzima-Aroian in 2012, JNP Coffee are without question one of the most impactful exporters working in the Burundi coffee sector today. JNP are also the majority purchaser of coffees grown within the Burundi chapter of the IWCA (International Women’s Coffee Alliance), also being instrumental in its formation. Alongside this, they are heavily involved in supporting other social initiatives for women in their communities, such as financial literacy and leadership training. Jeanine is also the founder of Burundi Friends International (BFI), a nonprofit organization focused on providing educational opportunities to youth and women in Burundi. Today, BFI serves over 75,000 students across all provinces in Burundi. They have six container-libraries, 79 smaller libraries (mostly in schools) and 1,000 English Clubs that meet in small classrooms. BFI also supports higher education by paying college tuition, fees and living costs for 42 students in Burundi.

1gram of freshly ground coffee to 16-17g water / Slurry temperature (coffee+water): 200 - 205 ̊F – 93 - 96 ̊C / Extraction: 20 - 21% / TDS 1.38-1.41%
