49th Parallel Crop To Cup Story

This is our first year featuring Geiner Montano Vasquez’s coffee and we’re very happy to have it! Growing up immersed in coffee producing, Geiner comes from the established Montano family in the municipality of Palermo, Colombia. Beginning his work with coffee at the early age of 10, Geiner’s lifetime of experience and familiarity with coffee growing is easy to see in the cup.

Located a short drive down the mountain from his uncle Diomed Montano (another of our growing partners and owner of La Pensilvania), La Esperanza is a 4.4 hectare farm, 3.5 of which is planted with coffee. The rest is currently in the process of being reforested after many years of livestock grazing.

This microlot is made up of 100% Colombia varietal. After cherries were picked it was double fermented, first for 12 hours before pulping, then after pulping for an additional 40 hours in a fermentation tank. After being washed, the beans were carefully dried in a mechanical dryer for 45 hours at a temperature between 35 - 40 degrees Celsius.

    I recommend this product
    Not bad but not great

This coffee was decent but didn’t have any distinguishing characteristics. The flavor is a little light and was hoping for more of a sweet berry note.

    The best of the best

Tried 15 to 20 different blends over the past couple of years and this is the only one we order now. Far superior to the rest, although the breakfast blend is great when they have it.
