Sourcing Story

49th Parallel Crop To Cup Story

The growers of the Santa Barbara region, Honduras are renowned in coffee roasteries and cafes around the world for the high quality of coffee they are producing. Having some growing relationships close to a decade in length, 49th is familiar with the hard work, care and diligence these producers show in their coffees.

One of the critical elements for this region’s fame is the Paz family, owners of local exporting company Beneficio San Vicente. Working with over 300 different producers to ensure the quality and sustainability of coffee production as well as fostering long term relationships between farmers and roasteries, BSV has set the example for exporting companies around the world.

Benjamin Paz has been involved with BSV and coffee growing for the majority of his life and in 2012 decided to begin his own coffee growing journey, purchasing a plot 4-hectare plot of land in La Leona village and employing the help of friend Don Elias to manage the farm.

Here they planted many different varieties including Parainema, Caturra, Bourbon, Pacas, and Catuai. The land this lot has come from has no official name so to speak, to quote Benjamin “I’ve been working on it for 8 years”. So for now we will just call it Benjamin’s coffee!
