This is a trio of coffees we sourced from Vides 58, our partners in Huehuetenango, Guatemala. These lots express our favourite things about coffee grown by the Vides family – extremely fruit-forward and complex, over-the-top levels of sweetness and a luscious, syrupy mouthfeel. This is Huehuetenango coffee at its best.

This trio collection includes:

1. Guatemala Vides 58 "Cuevitas"

BERGAMOT · PASSIONFRUIT · TANGERINE

Description:

Cuevitas is one of the highest elevation farms the Vides family owns (up to 1950 m.a.s.l.) Here they grow San Ramon and Caturra varieties. This lot is a fully washed processed lot that underwent a 48-hour anaerobic fermentation before drying on raised beds for 12 days. This lot really blew us away with its candy-like sweetness and ultra-velvety mouthfeel. Expect a very complex spectrum of flavours here, with everything from florals, dark berries and tropical fruits alongside a juicy acidity

2. Guatemala Vides 58 "Los Cipresales" (Washed) 

CINNAMON · RASPBERRY · VANILLA

Description:

Los Cipresales represents a smaller plot of the Vides family’s farm “Finca La Bolsa”, which has been producing coffee for over 60 years. Here, they are producing a spectacular selection of the Pacamara variety in both the washed and natural processes.

In the washed process lot, we found a cup dominated by sweetness like vanilla and cinnamon sugar, with a heavy syrupy mouthfeel. This was complemented by brightness and fruitiness that reminded us of a perfectly ripe raspberry.

3. Guatemala Vides 58 "Los Cipresales" (Natural) 

DRIED DATE · NAVEL ORANGE · MANGO

Description:

Los Cipresales represents a smaller plot of the Vides family’s farm “Finca La Bolsa”, which has been producing coffee for over 60 years. Here, they are producing a spectacular selection of the Pacamara variety in both the washed and natural processes.

In the natural process lot, we found a refined cleanness and acidity reminding us of yellow mango or navel orange alongside a concentrated sweetness like a dried date. This is an elegant and balanced natural process that really enhances the already very fruit-forward qualities of this coffee.

Sourcing Story

Among our regular purchasing from Vides 58, this year we wanted to showcase some of their most impressive and unique offerings.

One lot is from “Cuevitas”, one of the highest elevation farms the Vides family owns (up to 1950 m.a.s.l.) Here they grow San Ramon and Caturra varieties. This lot is a fully washed processed lot that underwent a 48-hour anaerobic fermentation before drying on raised beds for 12 days.

The other two are a washed and natural process Pacamara variety from a part of their farm Finca La Bolsa named “Los Cipresales.”

Vides 58 is a family company, owning and operating several farms in the La Libertad region of Huehuetenango, Guatemala. Their story begins over 6 decades ago with Jorge Vides, who was a highly esteemed doctor who travelled all around the country treating his patients. In 1958, he founded the first Vides family farm “Finca La Bolsa”, which continues to produce fantastic coffee to this day.

Now 3 generations into coffee production, the company is managed by Jorge’s grandson Renardo and daughter María, who continue the family legacy of exporting fantastic, sustainably produced coffees.

The Vides family has become world-renowned for not only the delicious coffee they produce but the positive impact they have on the local community in Huehuetenango. They are heavily involved in environmental conservation, the development of schools in the local area and improving the living conditions of their workers.
