Description

We've teamed up with Vancouver pottery artist Daisy Browns to bring you a very limited run of these stunning handcrafted ceramic coffee cups. Designed with Specialty Coffee drinkers in mind to provide the perfect sized cup to sip your favourite 49th coffee. Each one is unique, no two are the same - features are:

  • Each cup is formed through a special technique called Inlay. Clay is coloured with a stain, rolled out and cut into funky shapes, which are then pressed into the mug, and thrown on to the wheel. The unique patterning style has been developed by Daisy through a lot of experimentation and practice, combining her love for quick shapes and wheel thrown flourish!
  • These are handle-less with thick enough clay to hold warm to hot coffee
  • Painted stamp at the bottom of the cup with 49th logo X Daisy Brown's signature
  • Volume of 9oz

Cups are dishwasher safe. However, it is recommended to hand wash to avoid chipping in the dishwasher. NOTE: each mug is handcrafted, one of a kind and may have slight differences.

Q&A with Daisy

We Asked Daisy Some Questions to Get to Know Her More:

  • Question: What is your pottery design process?
  • Answer: My initial concepts come to me right when I’m about to fall asleep. They get worked out on my walk to the studio and as I wedge clay. I love our studio window. It’s where I stand and day dream until I’m ready to begin wedging.

  • Question: What did you consider when creating 49th's ceramic coffee cup?
  • Answer: With my typical process when I inlay colours, I start with a limited palette and allow spontaneity to inform the result of each individual mug. But because I was working with a larger number of pieces for this, I worked to dial in the design from the start, to determine the outcome from the beginning- quite opposite to how I naturally work. I’m super excited about the results!

  • Question: What would you like to make next for 49th?
  • Answer: A pourover set! Or a coffee flight tasting tray. Or coffee canisters. I have a plethora of ideas, and could go on.

  • Question: What do you do in your days off or what hobbies do you have?
  • Answer: I am concocting something new in the kitchen, making toys for my kittens, and calling my mum.

  • Question: How do you take your coffee?
  • Answer: Black, and at room temperature. I lose track of my coffee whether at home or the studio, and find it around noon when it’s delightfully tepid.
