Sourcing Story
49th Parallel Crop To Cup Story
This coffee comes from Chelbesa Washing Station in Ethiopia, which is in partnership with over 460 farmers who contribute to this wet mill. Owned and operated by SNAP Coffee Trading, it is located between 2000-2200 masl with almost perfect weather conditions for drying and processing coffee.
SNAP are a quality focused coffee exporter based in Ethiopia. They are operating on a model of full integration. This means they own and operate washing stations, a logistics company, a dry mill and a coffee laboratory in the capital city of Addis Ababa. This approach to coffee in Ethiopia is only possible in recent years and offers never before seen levels of control and traceability across the entire process.
The face of this operation is Abenezer Asfaw, who is the supply chain manager at SNAP. He visited us at the roastery in 2019 and gave a lot of insight to the direction Ethiopian coffee production is heading in, which was very informative and exciting.
SNAP coffees are one of the brightest points in our purchasing calendar every year and Chelbesa is a great reason why!
