Costa Rica has recently become a new direct trade origin partner for 49th Parallel, and it's one we are incredibly excited about! We began working with four new farmers there in 2019, all producing exceptional coffees. The farmers have amazing varieties that yield diverse flavours due to their experimental processing.
Water usage regulation is a huge factor in Costa Rica coffee production. Farmers there have had to be very smart in working out new processing methods that use less water. Methods such as dry fermentation, anaerobic fermentation, honey process, and others have become popular in many facilities in the country as a result. A government project called “Nama” has further changed the approach toward conventional processing methods. Its purpose is to measure and minimize water usage in the farming industry.
Costa Rican farmers are also working hard to reduce their emissions and lower their carbon footprint.
