Ethiopia Chelelektu Dembel

Chelelektu coffee comes from SNNPR otherwise known as the Southern Nations, Nationalities & Peoples Region in Africa. It is a Yirgacheffe type from Gedeo, Kochere. The washing station that is producing Chelelektu is called Dembel, known for producing natural and washed coffees with distinctly clean and floral characteristics. This washing station works with 400 farmers working at elevations as high as 1900 masl.

This variety coffee is predominantly named as 74-158. These numbers are used for hybrid coffees that don’t have official names yet. The first number (74) signifies the year this coffee was discovered and the second number represents the lot it was apart of. However this lot is also known as Kurume. Dembel washing station is continuously striving to improve its infrastructure. As it currently stands the station is water optimized for pH and fermentation tanks work wonderfully in parallel with the mountain spring water. On average they receive 1800-2000mm of rain annually.

This particular lot offers dried peach flavour with bergamot oil and eucalyptus notes.

For all filter coffees we recommend the following parameters:

  • Brewing ratio: 1g coffee to 16-17g water
  • Slurry temperature (coffee+water): 200 - 205 ̊F / 93 - 96 ̊C
  • Extraction: 20 - 21%
