Ethiopia Gigessa Single Origin Espresso

The Gigessa washing station is located close to Shakiso, a small town near Guji. This washing station is owned by Testi and managed by Faysel Abdosh. Together they manage to produce an impressive 10 containers of both washed and natural processed coffee. This particular lot that we have purchased is a grade 1 that really stood out to our buyer when he was cupping countless lots back in Addis in December.

The terroir of this area is very special and one of the highest elevations for coffee growing in the country.  The heirloom varieties of the surrounding forests have been transferred to family smallholder plots over time and now make up the flavour prole for the region.

This marks our second Guji release of the season and we have made sure that we have a couple more vibrant lots from the south to dive into as the weather starts to cool down.

In the cup, you can expect oral aromatics upfront with intense green kiwi and eucalyptus flavours.

For all espresso we recommend the following parameters (for an 18g VST Precision Filter Basket):

  • 18 grams of freshly ground coffee
  • Timer for 28-32 seconds
  • Pull 37-39 grams of liquid espresso
  • Grouphead at 200° F
  • 9 bars of pressure
