Ethiopia Hunda Oli
FLORAL // CURRANT // HONEY
This is an especially important year for the cooperative members of Hunda Oli, as this is the first crop year that this resilient and passionate cooperative will be selling their own coffee with the assistance of a different union - their own. Under the leadership of Mustafa Abakeno (both the chair of Hunda Oli Cooperative, as well as the newly formed Keta Muduga union), smallholders around the Agaro region have an opportunity for increased transparency and autonomy. It’s a hopeful change that comes in step with additional challenges this year with drought, frost, and climate disruption.
We were extremely careful this year in our lot selection, as much of the lots we cupped in the west were either dried way too quickly or too much. It took a lot of attention to detail to come out the other side of this harvest cycle with healthy vibrant coffees, and we are honestly over the moon with Hunda Oli’s efforts. This marks our 7th year proudly buying from cooperatives in Agaro - enjoy!
