DIRECT TRADE COFFEE
Description
This is a natural processed lot produced by Wako Aba in Kochere, Ethiopia. We were extremely impressed with the quality of processing on this lot, combining everything we love about Ethiopian coffee into one cup!
SOURCING STORY
Wako Aba is a smallholder producer from Bonki Busa, Kochere in southern Ethiopia. A multi-generational producer, he inherited his knowledge from family members who farmed coffee before him. The farm was previously focused on producing honey, but Wako has since transitioned the land to focus on coffee as it provided a better livelihood. We sourced this coffee through the Lalisaa program, an intiative by Sucafina aimed at educating producers, rewarding coffee quality and connecting farmers in Ethiopia directly with roasters to facilitate direct trade relationships. They work with over 90 producers in regions such as Kochere, Gedeb, Yigachefee, Shakiso and Sidama. Farmers in the program participate in a wide range of activities including designing, and later revising, a farm management plan, accessing financing for larger farm projects and more. It’s unique to be able to purchase coffee in Ethiopia directly from a single producer and we hope to continue the relationship with Wako in the years to come!
