Holiday Filter Blend
DIRECT TRADE COFFEE
Celebrate the holidays with festive and comforting notes of cacao, marzipan and sweet pastry in this holiday blend. Expect a deep, caramelized sweetness and creamy, rounded mouthfeel with a lower acidity profile.
This year, there’s more good news: by drinking this coffee, you’re helping provide someone in need with much-needed nutrition this holiday season. For every bag of Holiday coffee sold, 49th Parallel will donate 10% of the proceeds to Food Banks Canada. Why does that matter? Because no one should have to go to bed hungry. By buying these coffees, you’re helping spread the holiday spirit to those who need it most.
The coffees we chose for our Holiday Blend this year are from two of our favorite producing partners – the Pacas family in El Salvador and SNAP Coffee in Ethiopia. Finca El Retiro is owned and operated by the Pacas family, located in the municipality of Chalchuapa, El Salvador. It has been owned by the Pacas family since 1927 and is currently managed by Andres Palma. The farm is about 19 hectares in size, planted with Bourbon, Pacamara and Bernardina varieties and Inga trees for shading and biodiversity. Coffee picked here is processed for export at the nearby Beneficio Vivagua mill, also owned and operated by the Pacas family. Owned and operated by SNAP Coffee Trading, Chelbesa Washing Station is in partnership with over 460 farmers who contribute their coffees to the wet mill. Located in the Gedeo zone of the Gedeb district and situated at an altitude between 2000-2200 m.a.s.l - it has almost perfect weather conditions for drying and processing coffee. SNAP are a quality focused coffee exporter based in Ethiopia, operating on a model of full integration. This means they own and operate washing stations, a logistics company, a dry mill and a coffee laboratory in the capital city of Addis Ababa. This approach to coffee in Ethiopia is only possible in recent years and offers never before seen levels of control and traceability across the entire process.
