Founded by Jeanine Niyonzima-Aroian in 2012, JNP Coffee are without question one of the most impactful exporters working in the Burundi coffee sector today. This lot is from the Incuti washing station and is produced through the “dushime” program. This is a partnership JNP has forged with a local producer group in the Kayanza region. Dushime in Kirundi translates to “let’s be thankful.” This program rewards producers for quality, baying back higher premiums as well as offering quality consultation, help with lot separations and even marketing to JNP’s buying community. JNP are also the majority purchaser of coffees grown within the Burundi chapter of the IWCA (International Women’s Coffee Alliance), also being instrumental in its formation. Alongside this, they are heavily involved in supporting other social initiatives for women in their communities, such as financial literacy and leadership training. Jeanine is also the founder of Burundi Friends International (BFI), a nonprofit organization focused on providing educational opportunities to youth and women in Burundi. Today, BFI serves over 75,000 students across all provinces in Burundi. They have six container-libraries, 79 smaller libraries (mostly in schools) and 1,000 English Clubs that meet in small classrooms. BFI also supports higher education by paying college tuition, fees and living costs for 42 students in Burundi. We are elated to support a company like JNP that puts quality and empowerment of producers at the forefront of everything they do.
