Description
This Burundi Kayanza Butanyerera Natural comes from 289 smallholder farmers delivering ripe coffee cherry to the Nkuba Coffee Washing Station in northern Burundi’s Kayanza Province, one of the country’s most respected coffee-growing regions. Grown at 1647 masl in volcanic loam soils, this lot is sundried using natural processing, which helps develop deep fruit sweetness, rounded body, and expressive berry character. Roasted medium-light for filter brewing, the cup highlights notes of brown sugar, cherry, and dried berry, supported by gentle grape-like acidity, subtle cocoa undertones, and a sweet, fruit-forward finish.
SOURCING STORY
Nkuba Coffee Washing Station sits in the highlands of Kayanza Province in northern Burundi, where coffee is grown by smallholder farmers on the surrounding hillsides. The station is owned and managed by Minani Leonard and works with 289 local farmers who deliver freshly harvested cherry throughout the season. In partnership with Baho Coffee, Nkuba helps connect these farmers’ coffees to the specialty market while maintaining careful sorting and drying practices at the station. For this natural lot, ripe cherries are selected, dried on raised beds, and rotated regularly to protect sweetness and fruit clarity. The result is a vibrant Burundi coffee with brown sugar sweetness, cherry-like fruit, dried berry depth, and a clean, rounded finish.
