SOURCING STORY
This coffee comes from 396 smallholder farmers in the Gedeb Woreda of Ethiopia’s Gedeo Zone, who deliver cherries to the Worka Chelchele (Banko Chelchele) washing station. Grown at elevations between 1,900 and 2,100 meters in rich Vertisol soils, the coffee features indigenous landraces and locally selected cultivars. At the washing station, cherries are depulped, fermented for 48 hours, washed twice, and then dried on raised beds for about 18 days. The station, established in 2021 and equipped with 12 fermentation tanks and over 250 drying beds, is operated by Tadesse Desta Import & Export, which is currently pursuing organic and Rainforest Alliance certifications.
